Why We Built the Epic Men’s Ares

We built the Ares for the bowler who is done renting. It is our lightweight right-handed value shoe, and the brief we gave ourselves was simple: get the performance basics exactly right and skip everything that inflates the price.

So the Ares gets a fixed E8 microfiber slide sole that reads the same every frame, a grippy Epic-Traction push-off sole that bites the approach, and a cushioned blown EVA footbed underfoot. Nothing you do not need. Everything you do.

How the Epic Men’s Ares Slides

A quick primer if this is your first real pair: you slide on the foot opposite your bowling hand. The Ares is a right-handed shoe, so we put the E8 microfiber slide sole on the left foot for a smooth, controlled glide and the Epic-Traction sole on the right foot, where your push-off happens.

A Slide That Reads the Same Every Frame

We chose the E8 microfiber pad because it delivers an average, controlled slide, the friction level that works across the widest range of approach surfaces. It is fixed, so there is nothing to swap or adjust: lace up and your slide is exactly where you left it.

On the push-off side, the Epic-Traction sole grips the approach so you can plant hard and drive into the slide step. The two soles are tuned to work together for a balanced, repeatable finish at the line.

Light on Your Feet, Easy on a Long Session

The soft manmade upper keeps the Ares light and durable, and we lined the interior with fabric and a padded collar so it stays comfortable deep into a session. The whole shoe is built to keep your feet fresh from the first frame to the last.

Underfoot, a molded removable blown EVA footbed cushions every step, and the non-marking rubber outsole with a defined heel keeps you stable and ready on the approach.
